Session 3D: Working Toward User-Centric Designs

Session 3A
Why use Shockwave?
-Web sites use Shockwave content for interactive product demos,
3D design and games
-Over 270 million users Worldwide have Shockwave
-Almost 65% of worldwide users can experience Shockwave

Shockwave 3D
-Director can only import W3D files
-Use the Property Inspector to set the Director Light for the 3D model
-Director Light:
-Use the Shockwave 3D Viewer to rotate, pan, dolly and position the cameras around the 3D model
-Use the 3D Actions to let the user rotate, zoom and drag the 3D model

3D Actions
-Drag Model to Rotate Behavior
-Dolly Camera Behavior
-Reset Camera Behavior
-Automatic Rotation Behavior

Many actions require a "trigger" in order for the user to manipulate the 3D model

Create 3D Text
-Use the Property Inspector to set the text to 3D mode
-Choose the 3D Extruder tab on the Property Inspector to change the lighting, texture, faces and intial camera positioning
-Use the Shockwave 3D Viewer to pan the camera (to center the text), dolly the camera (to zoom in on the text and position it on the Stage)
-Adjust the text's smoothing, bevel edge and tunnel depth
-Use the shader texture option to import an image as a texture over the 3D text
-Adjust the reflectivity setting to adjust the texture's highlights

-Import and adjust a Flash movie's setting with the Property Inspector
-Import and adjust a QuickTime movie's settings with the Property Inspector

Session 3B
-Add sound effects to specific keyframes on the Timeline
-Add background music as an event sound
-Add button sounds as start sounds to prevent overlapping sound effects
-Use the Sound Object to control the sound in your Flash movie

Adjust the sound's volume

1. Place a button on the Stage and label it "lower volume"

2. Select the button and choose Window...Actions

3. Then choose Actions...evaluate

4. In the Expression field, enter the name of your Sound Object (ex: MySound)

5. Choose Objects...Sound...SetVolume

The SetVolume method requires a volume parameter to set the percentage of the volume level for the sound (0=muted; 100=loud)

6. Replace the volume parameter with a value of 40

7. Place another button on the Stage and label it "raise volume"

8. Choose Window...Actions again

8. Choose Actions...evaluate
